The Maia Consulting team has extensive experience in the health sector, working with medical, nursing and allied health professionals, educators, researchers, patients and carers.  We are skilled at dealing with a wide range of people from different socioeconomic, cultural and linguistically diverse backgrounds.  Our qualitative and quantitative research skills have given health professionals a greater understanding of patient’s needs, aided program delivery and updated information required to provide quality services.  Our ability to genuinely communicate with research participants with empathy and compassion ensures high quality outcomes.  Additionally, the Maia team are able to assist Medical practitioners conducting their own research by taking on the time consuming tasks of qualitative data collection and assessment and generating output from large data sets.

The Maia Consulting team’s long standing work with the Australian Breastfeeding Association has helped mothers successfully breastfeed, promoting positive health outcomes for both mother and baby and breaking down barriers to breastfeeding within the community.

Examples of our team members’ experience in the health sector include:

  • Co-ordinated the Victorian cancer research survey and evaluation of radiotherapy in regional Victoria – Ministerial task force for cancer; Victoria
  • Wrote clinical  guidelines for “The management of STI’s and BBV’s in prison settings” for the Victorian  public health prison initiative -  Department of Health, Victoria
  • In partnership with the Victorian Cancer council developed and ran “Quit Coach” training program for nursing staff at the Royal Children’s Hospital, Victoria- Fresh Air for The Kids research project, RCH, Melbourne, Victoria
  • Project managed “Fresh Air for The Kids” – Parental smoking as a child health issue research project; RCH, Melbourne, Victoria
  • Co-ordinated Bvax project – Hepatitis B vaccine research in people who inject drugs – The Burnet Institute, Melbourne, Victoria
  • Worked in Immunisation and general disease surveilance - Department of Health, Victoria
  • Community education  – Australian Breastfeeding Association;
  • Diabetes Nurse Practitioner research study – Nurse based research at St Vincents Hospital;
  • “The World of Breastfeeding:  Learning from each other” – Australia Breastfeeding Association Victorian Conference;
  • Clinical improvement project - Emergency Dept, Royal Children’s Hospital, Victoria.
